A Letter to My Ex-Boyfriend

Who would have thought that our cat-and-dog-relationship

would turn out to be an intricate  love story?

You were like a tiger to a chihuahua,

although at times it was the other way around.

But look at how love has transformed us!

 

Before you laid your eyes on me and

considered the possibility of having me as your own,

I was struggling in an excruciating journey through a broken road.

 

The start of our relationship was like a roller coaster ride.

The take off was turbulent.

The twists and turns were unpredictable.

I thought of disembarking,

but I was convinced that it would be worth all the troubles.

 

When the day of reckoning came,

you held my hand and never let go.

When the smoke settled

and the attacks died down,

we still had each other.

 

I admit I miss the crazy bantering and cruel teasing

but I am relieved to move past the cringing moments of adjustments.

We both recognized the need to move on.

We sensed the urgency to level up.

We decided to head not towards separate directions,

but towards a greater commitment.

 

I rejoice because you are no longer my boyfriend.

I celebrate because you are the hope fulfilled by love.

I will no longer be celebrating Valentine’s Day on my own.
