Before I Go to Sleep

Rosal Beach Sunset (c) Mosler Paul Lapore

Pleasant surprises are coming my way.

I will sleep with a heart overflowing with gratitude

and a soul oozing with hope.

Thank You, Lord!

I am amazed by You!

“Your thoughts—how rare, how beautiful!
      God, I’ll never comprehend them!
I couldn’t even begin to count them—
any more than I could count the sand of the sea.
Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with you!”

Psalm 139: 17-18 (Message Translation)

Happy Heart’s Day!

In the Arms of His Love

Today, we can work with optimum strength without being exhausted. The tasks and responsibilities may get quite complex and convoluted but we can take courage and comfort in the presence of our Lord and Savior. In His presence, fears will not be cultivated, worries will not be entertained. With Him, we can go “placidly amid the noise and haste” and experience serenity in the midst of troubles. Love Your Enemies

“You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. Bankrupt Without Love

This entire month, I am going to meditate on what the Bible says about love. I want to understand the kind of love that honors God. The first chapter that comes to mind is 1 Corinthians 13, the New International Version of which I have committed to memory. Wondering how it is rendered in the Message Translation, I immediately checked my favorite Online Bible. Here’s my favorite love chapter in Message Translation, a version that I will read aloud every morning for the entire February:

1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. 3-7If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
